Oregon — The Oregon Secretary of State’s office is warning businesses about a letter from OR Certificates Services offering a certificate of good standing request form. Although the letter might appear to be from a government agency, it is not. The warning, which contains a sample of the letter, can be read here. Click on “Certificate of Standing Solicitation.”

Mississippi — The Mississippi Secretary of State has issued a warning cautioning the public not to open any e-mails or click on any links within e-mails from the domain “sos.state.ms.us”. An e-mail from that domain was not sent by the Secretary of State. These e-mails contain viruses and are used to harvest data from users. The official domain of the Mississippi Secretary of State is sos.ms.gov.

Virginia — The State Corporation Commission has posted an alert about solicitations being mailed to recently formed Virginia business entities titled “2019 CERTIFICATE OF GOOD STANDING REQUEST FORM”. The alert advises that this solicitation is not from the Commission and encourages any Virginia business entity that receives the solicitation to consult with its lawyer or business advisor before returning a completed form and payment.
